Should the heels of the feet touch each other in prostration? What should the distance between two feet be while standing?
Dear Brother / Sister,
According to Hanafis, it is sunnah to keep the feet about four fingers away from each other while standing because it is better for awe.
According to Shafiis, the distance between two feet should be a span while standing. It is makruh to touch one foot with the other without any excuse because it is a state that prevents awe.
According to Malikis and Hanbalis, it is mandub to leave a distance between two feet while standing. It should not be adjacent or very wide; there should be a moderate distance between two feet.
It is mustahab to leave a distance between two feet in ruku’ and to make the heels touch each other in prostration. (Prof. Dr. Wahba Zuhayli, İslam Fıkhı Ansiklopedisi)
