Is it a sin to go to toilet having Jawshan (a prayer book) on us? What is the decree about it?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

It is definitely best not to take booklets that contain verses, prayers and supplications like Jawshan to dirty places like toilets. If it is possible, it is better to leave them outside while entering the toilet and to take it back after going out. However, it might not be possible all the time.

It is better not to use the phrases "to have on one's body, to take it somewhere" for the booklet carried in the pocket with the intention of reading and protection. We will quote from "Damad", which is an explanation of the book "Multaqa", and find and prefer a way out. The following is stated there:

“It is permissible for a person who has something on which some verses of the Quran or names of Allah are written in his pocket to go to toilet. It is also permissible if they are wrapped in something. It is more respectful if they are wrapped. However, it is better to leave them outside at a clean place by taking precautions if possible.”

In an example regarding the issue, verses and blessed words on a ring are mentioned and it is stated that one should not go to toilet with the ring on which verses are written and it is pointed out that if the face of the ring on which verses are written is turned inside and held in the palm, it will be permissible.

Thus, it seems if these booklets or writings are wrapped in a piece of cloth, paper, etc and put in the pocket after that, it is permissible to go to toilet with them.

It is better to keep them in a wrapped form in the pocket than leaving them outside fearing to go to toilet with them.

A Jawshan in the form of a necklace is closed; so, it is permissible to go toilet with it.
