Ghasl and Mash
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, what exactly is the difference between washing (ghasl) and wiping (mash) in the hanafi madhab? Also, what are the definitions of washing and wiping in the hanafi madhab? I don't understand the difference. Jazakhallahu khayr, and jazakhallahu khayr for answering all my questions.
Dear Brother / Sister,
Washing means wetting the entire limb with water. If enough water reaches the area that a few drops of water run off, this is considered washing that area.
Masḥ, on the other hand, means passing a wet hand over the area. In this case, it is not necessary for the entire limb, or the entire bandage covering it, or something worn on the foot such as a khuff, to become wet.
