Can a person whose foot is disabled lead a prayer as an imam? I have a prosthetic foot but I can perform prayers properly (by standing and sitting). Can I lead prayers at home to my family?
I generally perform evening prayers at home. However, I perform most of the other prayers in congregation in the mosque. When I perform a prayer at home, I want to be an imam to my wife. My question is this: my right leg is prosthetic from the knee down; that is, my right leg is amputated from the knee down. I can perform prayers properly when my prosthesis is fixed by standing and sitting. As far as I know, excused people cannot lead prayers. Is it permissible if I lead the prayer to my wife at home?
Dear Brother / Sister,
A person who has an excuse that will harm wudu and prayer cannot lead prayers. Such a person can lead prayers to excused people like him. The excuse mentioned here is an excuse in terms of fiqh.
A person whose foot or other organ is disabled but who is not regarded as excused in terms of fiqh can lead prayers. What matters is whether you can fulfill the fards of the prayer. If there is no problem about it, you can lead prayers. Therefore, you can lead a prayer as an imam at home or in other places.
