Is ghusl made with zamzam water? Is istinja made with zamzam?
Dear Brother / Sister,
According to four madhhabs, it is sunnah to make wudu with zamzam water. All of the four imams say that one can make wudu with zamzam water. However, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal says it is makruh.
Mulla Aliyyul-Qari, one of the scholars of Hanafi madhhabs, says it is makruh tanzihi for a junub person to make ghusl with zamzam water. However, most of the scholars say it is permissible. However, tayammum is not permissible when zamzam water is available.
Istinja (cleaning the private parts after urination and defecation) can be made with water; if there is no water, small stones can be used. However, it is makruh to make istinja with bones, pieces of glass, printed or written paper, expensive fabric like silk and zamzam water.
It is necessary to show respect to empty paper. If there is no water, istinja can be made with worthless fabric and cotton, and hydrophilic paper (toilet paper/tissue).
In fact, it is more appropriate in terms of cleanliness to make istinja with water first and to dry with something hydrophilic like fabric.
