The Answer
Dear Brother / Sister,
Eid al-fitr is one day and eid al-adha is four days.
The Prophet (pbuh) prohibited fasting in eid al-fitr and eid al-adha. (see Bukhari, Sawm, 66-67) In another hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Mina/tashriq days are days of eating and drinking.”(Muslim, Siyam, 144). The Prophet (pbuh) called those Mina/tashriq days “days of eid”. (Muslim, Salatul-Idayn, 4, -h. No: 17)
The majority of the scholars say that eid al-fitr is one day and eid al-adha is four days based on the hadith narrations above and similar ones. (see W. Zuhayli, al-Fiqhul-Islami, 2/582-583)
