Is it permissible to have vasectomy, (to remove part of each of the tubes in a man’s body that carry sperm), which means to demasculinize?
Dear Brother / Sister,
It is not possible to say "it is permissible and there is no drawback to it". For, it means to demasculinize a person. To think of demasculinizing a person means to change the creation; such a reduction is regarded to make a perfect thing defective; it is contrary to the order "Do not change what Allah created".
Sterilization means elimination of one of the functions of the body. To make a person who is perfect defective means to change creation and it is not permissible. Things can change in the future and you may need to have children. Islam does not regard a method that makes a person sterilized irreversibly. However, you can use other birth control methods.
Nevertheless, if a committee of doctors who are specialists and who are sensitive in terms of religion decides that there is nothing else to do except vasectomy, it becomes permissible.
