How can you tell what time to start and break your fast for Ramadan?

The Details of the Question
Why do our local masjid insist on keeping the fast at 3.30 when the sun rise is not un til 5.30 and that is when you can see the white thread of dawn according to this bukhari hadith?? am i in big trouble if i stick to the sunnah of our prophet (saw) or should i stick with the masjid and will my fast be rejected?... jazakallah

Dear Brother / Sister,

You must start fasting and break it according to the local prayer schedule defined by The Directorate of Religious Affairs. You must follow the prayer schedule for the area you live.
