"Satan intervened between me and my qira’ah..." The Messenger of Allah said,: "When you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left..." Are delusions related to reading hadiths mentioned above?

The Details of the Question

"Satan intervened between me and my prayer and my reciting of the Quran and confounded me." The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "That is a devil who is known as Khinzab; when you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left." Uthman said, "I did that and ALLAH dispelled him from me." – What is meant here?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

The hadith is included in Muslim. Uthman Ibnu Abil-As narrates:

"O Messenger of Allah! Satan intervenes between me and my prayer and my reciting of the Quran (qira’ah) and confounds me. (What should I do?)"

The Prophet (pbuh) gave the following answer: "That is a devil who is known as Khinzab; when you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left!"

(Uthman Ibnu Abil-As) said, "I did that and Allah dispelled him from me "(Muslim, Salam: 68)

The word khinzab are also pronounced as khanzab and khunzab. The delusion of Satan in prayer is the confusions and hesitations in prayer caused by him about how many rak’ahs one has performed and what he has read.

What is meant by intervening is preventing the awe and peace of prayer. They disturb the peace and awe of the heart. In that case, the solution to those delusions is to take refuge with Allah. (İbrahim CANAN, Kutub as-Sittah Translation and Explanation, Akçağ Publications: IX/415)

Along with confusions about the number of rak'ahs and qira’ah, various delusions can also come to the mind. It is necessary to take refuge with Allah about all of them.
