If a person does not perform sajdah as-sahw though it is necessary, is his prayer invalidated? Is it possible to make a mistake while performing sajdah as-sahw? If it is possible, is sajdah as-sahw performed for sajdah as-sahw?

The Details of the Question

1) What should a person who makes a mistake that necessitates sajdah as-sahw in prayer but forgets to perform sajdah as-sahw do? 2) What should a person who catches up with the imam who has performed sajdah as-sahw do? That is, how should a person who catches up with the imam after the imam has performed sajdah as-sahw and while he is sitting and reading at-Tahiyyat and Salli-Barik supplications complete his prayer?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

The prayer of a person who does not perform sajdah as-sahw (prostration of forgetfulness) though it is necessary is valid. He does not have to perform it again.

If a person starts to follow the imam after the imam has performed sajdah as-sahw, he completes his prayer normally. He does not have to perform sajdah as-sahw.

Something necessitating sajdah as-sahw after performing sajdah as-sahw cannot occur. That is, sajdah as-sahw is not performed for sajdah as-sahw.
