How can I calculate the days I did not fast?
- Can I pay fidyah for the days of fasting that I missed?
Dear Brother / Sister,
A man who does not exactly know how many days of fasting he missed subtracts twelve from his age and a woman subtracts nine from her age. Then, the number of the year is multiplied by thirty. The number of the days that he/she fasted is subtracted from this sum.
A person determines how many days he needs to perform fasting based on his calculations and his view. It will be easier if he fasts every Monday and Thursday or every other day when he performs fasting for the missed days.
A person who can perform fasting cannot get rid of the responsibility of the missed days by paying fidyah. However, a person who is very ill and who has no hope of recovery can and has to pay fidyah for the days he failed to fast.
