The Details of the Question
Salam,
I would like to know about pawn brokers. I am having difficulty with my finances, so much so I
might not be able to pay zakat this year. Am I able to go to a pawn broker to sell jewellery and
buy it back in instalments at an inflated price.
the jewellery was a gift from my mother so I do
not want to lose it but its the only thing of value I have to sell. I know it is haram to pay interest
but I´m desperate and can´t see any other option. Submitted by on Sat, 14/08/2010 - 22:11
The Answer
Dear Brother / Sister,
It is not permissible for a Muslim to go to pawn brokers. As it would be considered "Interest" then it is religiously haram.
