Is it necessary to wash the wudu organs before they dry? Is it permissible to let the washed organs dry while making wudu?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

The wudu made by washing another organ by letting a washed organ dry while making wudu is valid. However, it is sunnah to wash wudu organs without interruption, that is, washing all wudu organs before any of the organs dries.

To wash wudu organs one after another:

Wudu is a deed that the religion orders for preparing for worshipping; it is a whole with its fards and sunnahs. Therefore, it is regarded as sunnah to wash one organ before another organ dries. In some madhhabs, it is regarded as fard.

Whether the weather is hot or cold, windy or calm is not taken into consideration regarding the issue. The organs that integrate wudu are washed without interruption so that no other foreign deed interrupts.

Then, it is makruh to wash the wudu organs with interruption when there is no excuse. Running out of water in the middle of wudu and losing some time while looking for water is an excuse; therefore, it is not regarded as makruh.

The same thing is valid for ghusl and tayammum. The same issues are stated in Sirajul-Wahhaj and Fatawa al- Hindiyya. (see Celal Yıldırım, Kaynaklarıyla İslam Fıkhı, Uysal Kitabevi: 1/25.)
