Is it haram for men to wear silk ties?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

Our religion prohibits men from wearing clothes made of natural silk. However, there is no drawback to wearing clothes made of artificial silk. In addition, it is permissible to use natural silk to adorn clothes. To wear silk ties is included within the scope of this decree.

According to Hanafis (Raddul-Muhtar, VI/352-354), a strip of silk four fingers wide is permissible in a garment; however, the madhhabs evaluate the hadiths (Bukhari, Libas, 12, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 45; Muslim, Libas, 1, 2, 4; Abu Dawud, Ashriba 17; Tirmidhi, Adabp, 1, Libas, 1, Ashriba 10; Nasai, Zinah, 87; Ibn Majah, Ashriba 17. ) regarding the issue differently; therefore, it is more appropriate for men to avoid wearing garments and accessories that are made of pure silk or most of which consist of silk unless they have to wear them for the sake of their health.
