Some people claim that it is not valid to distribute juzes of the Quran to perform a khatm al-Quran. Is it true?

The Details of the Question

Some people claim that it is not valid to distribute juzes (parts) of the Quran to different people to perform a khatm al-Quran. They say if a person reads the whole Quran except the chapter of an-Nas and makes somebody else reads it, the khatm is not valid. Is it true?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

The Quran that is read and khatm al-Quran are like a lamp since they are luminous. When a person brings kerosene, another person mantle, another person glass and yet another person matches, etc, all of them have a full lamb and benefit from the lamb when it is burnt. If all of them have mirrors in their hands, each of them can say, "The lamp is with me." When one of them benefits from it, it does not prevent the others from benefitting from it.

The people who read different juzes (parts) of the Quran to perform a khatm al-Quran burn such a spiritual lamp. The lights of the lamps are their thawabs. Those who take part in the khatm receive thawabs from this spiritual light equally; the thawab one of them takes does not prevent the thawabs of others nor does it decrease them.

To sum up, a khatm al-Quran performed by different people reading different juzes of the Quran is valid.
