Can we send the thawab of reading a khatm al-Quran to different people?
When I read the Quran in Ramadan to complete a khatm al-Quran, a friend calls and asks me to complete a khatm for him/her too. Then, another friend calls and asks the same thing. What kind of an intention is necessary while reading this khatm? Is one khatm al-Quran for one person or can I send the thawab of a khatm al-Quran to several people?
Dear Brother / Sister,
You can send the thawab of a khatm al-Quran to all of those people and give it as a gift to anybody you wish. You can even send it to the spirits of all dead people.
A word is heard by all the people around when it is uttered. Similarly, the chapter of al-fatiha and khatm al-Quran can be sent as a gift to the spirits of all dead people. Its thawab does not decrease because of the multitude of the people to whom it is sent.
However, when you give the khatm al-Quran that you read to your friend as a gift, intend for your friend.
