I want to wear hijab, but my husband does not; what should I do in that case?
Dear Brother / Sister,
A woman must fulfill her husband’s legitimate wishes. However, she must not obey his unlawful wishes, even if he is her husband because Allah is the owner of every being and His wishes are to be obeyed first. Allah is the one who will help us in the grave, in the gathering place, on Sirat, and in the other realms of the Hereafter.
The following hadiths stipulate that obedience must be in accordance with Allah’s consent:
“If any of your leaders commands you to rebel against Allah, do not obey him in that matter.” (Ibn Majah, Jihad, 40);
“There is no obedience in issues that includes disobedience to Allah. Obedience is in question only in legitimate things.” (Bukhari, Ahkam, 4; Muslim, Imarah, 39-40).
