Is the prayer performed before the adhan is called (just before the time period for that prayer starts) accepted?
Sometimes I perform the prayer thinking that the adhan has been called, but the adhan is called immediately after my prayer is over or five minutes later. However, I do not perform it again because I think that Allah will accept it. Is what I do wrong?
Dear Brother / Sister,
Time is a prerequisite for the fard prayers and their sunnah prayers, for witr prayer, tarawih prayer, Friday prayer and eid prayers. Daily fard prayers are as follows: fajr (morning), zuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), maghrib (evening) and isha (night) prayers. Friday prayer is also performed at noon. Knowing the times of those prayers is a fard duty. A prayer that has been performed before its time period starts is not valid and has to be performed again within its prescribed time period.
However, a prayer that has been performed before the adhan has been called though its time period has started is valid. Therefore, if a prayer has been performed before its time period has started has to be performed again. If the time has started but the adhan has not been called, the prayers that have been performed are valid and they are not performed again. You should act according to this principle.
Accordingly, there is nothing wrong with performing a prayer before the adhan is called if the time period for that prayer has started However, if the time period has not started yet, that prayer has not become fard yet; so, the prayer that has been performed is not valid as the fard prayer; it has to be performed again.
