Can we rely on the food items on whose package "It includes no lard and additives from pigs” is written? Is it permissible to consume them?
Dear Brother / Sister,
"What is essential about things is being halal" is a rule in Islamic law. Something is regarded as halal until it becomes definite that it is haram. Therefore, it is halal to eat food items on whose package “It includes no lard and additives from pigs” is written.
In Islamic countries, there is no drawback to eating food items unless they are known to include haram substances. However, if there are food companies that are known to sell food items that include haram substances, their products must not be eaten unless it becomes definite that they include no haram substances even if they are in an Islamic country.
It is not appropriate to eat food items without knowing its contents in non-Muslim countries.
