What is the decree about eating and drinking something while the Quran is being recited?
Dear Brother / Sister,
A person who recites the Quran cannot eat and drink while he is reciting. However, he can eat and drink when he has a break. Besides, a person cannot read and recite the Quran at the same time.
It is fard al kifayah to listen to the Quran. If some people listen to the Quran in a place, those who do not listen are not held responsible. However, it is not regarded appropriate to read the Quran aloud near people who are busy doing other things.
What is important here is to listen to the Quran carefully and not to be busy doing other things. Eating means doing other things.
If the Quran is listened from a tape or computer, it is permissible to be busy doing legitimate things.
