What is the wisdom behind Hz. Isa, Idris, Ilyas and Khidr being in different levels of life? Why are they in a different level of life from the other prophets?
Dear Brother / Sister,
When Hz. Ilyas was convinced that Sons of Israel would not be guided to the right path, he prayed to Allah Almighty to separate him from them and elevate him to the sky. Allah Almighty accepted this prayer of Hz. Ilyas, allowed him to leave his nation and to be elevated to the sky.
Ibn Asakir reports the following from Ibn Ishaq:
According to what our friends report, When Hz. Adam was about to die, he summoned his children and said to them,
«O my children! Allah Almighty will definitely send wrath on earth. Let my dead body remain with you in the cave. When you go down, send me and bury me in the land of Damascus.» Adam's dead body was with his children. When Allah Almighty sent Hz. Nuh (Noah) as a prophet, he took the dead body with him. When Allah Almighty sent the deluge, the earth was flooded. Hz. Nuh told his three children to bury the dead body in the cave that was ordered. The children said,
«The earth is in savagery. There is nobody to help. We cannot find the way. Allow us so that we will keep it until people become trustable and increase.» Hz. Nuh said to them,
«Adam prayed to Allah so that the person who would bury him would be alive until Doomsday struck.» However, Hz. Adam’s dead body stayed there until Khidr came. Khidr buried Adam; therefore, Allah Almighty will make him live as long as he wishes.»
As Hz. Isa (Jesus) called people to the true religion, Jews acted stubbornly and hostilely toward him. They tried to prevent his efforts. Finally, they tried to kill him like Hz. Zakariyya (Zacharias), Hz. Yahya (John) and so many other prophets. Therefore, they sent somebody who pretended to believe in Hz. Isa to him. This person told them about where and when they met. When they decided to kill him, Allah Almighty sent the following revelation to Hz. Isa:
"O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject Faith, to the Day of Resurrection; then shall ye all return unto Me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute." (Aal-i Imran, 3/55)
Hz. Isa received a lot of revelation about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and he was informed that the Prophet (pbuh) would come after him. Therefore, he wanted to be of Hz. Muhammad’s ummah. Besides, Allah elevated him to the sky because he would be a means of purifying Christianity.
