Is there not a disconnection among verses 36-38 of the chapter of al-Baqara related to Hz. Adam?
- Hz. Adam’s being sent out of Paradise is narrated in verse 36 of the chapter of al-Baqara; his repentance is mentioned in verse 37 and it is stated that his repentance was accepted. However, his being sent out of Paradise is mentioned again in verse 38. Is there not a disconnection among those verses?

Dear Brother / Sister,
Attention is attracted to different issues in those verses though the topic is the same.
“Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: ‘Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood - for a time.’”
For instance, in verse 36 above, attention is attracted the trick of Satan, Adam and Hawwa’s (Eve’s) being expelled from Paradise by being deceived by Satan and the continuous enmity between Satan and people after that.
It is inevitable for those who hear that Hz. Adam was expelled from Paradise because they were deceived by Satan only once to fall into despair considering that they commit sins every day.
“Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord Turned towards him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.”
Verse 37 above tells people that the gate of repentance is wide open, showing them the gate of hope.
“We said: Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me, whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”
In verse 38 above, attention is attracted to their expulsion again. The wisdom behind its mention again is to prepare for the verses to come. Allah virtually states the following in that verse:
"O people! Do not feel sad because you will live on earth; I will always send you prophets to show you the way of guidance. What you need to do after now is to obey those prophets, whom show you the true path from me. For, those who follow those guides will not fear or grieve because they will enter Paradise, which is the real homeland of Adam, their ancestor, and will remain there forever."
To sum up, in verse 36, it is indicated that Hz. Adam was given the penalty of being expelled from Paradise because he was deceived by Satan and disobeyed Allah; his descendants are warned not to disobey Allah.
In verse 37, which comes immediately after it, it is pointed out that Hz. Adam’s repentance was accepted and that the gate of repentance is always open so that sinners will not fall into despair.
In verse 38, which comes immediately after it, it is stated that the gate of Paradise is always open for people, that it is not closed because they are sent to the world; divine guarantee is given that when the sinners repent, they will be settled in Paradise and will live there eternally.
