If Satan was expelled from Paradise, who made Hz. Adam eat the forbidden fruit?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

There is not much information about Satan’s entering Paradise and approaching Hz. Adam and Hz Hawwa (Eve) in the Quran and sound hadiths.

Hasan Basri says,

“Satan managed to send delusions from the earth to the sky or to Paradise with the power Allah gave him.”

According to this meaning, it can be said that the concept snake is a simile for vital power that is poisonous like a snake for man and that a real snake is not understood.

Some tafsir scholars state the following:

“Adam and Hawwa sometimes approached the gate of Paradise and Satan watched them from outside; he approached them and caused delusion.”

Satan’s being expelled from Paradise will not prevent him from sending delusions; therefore, we can conclude that there is no contradiction regarding the issue. Allah made Hz. Adam hear the delusion of Satan as a necessity of testing.
