Is it true that the Prophet will marry Hz. Maryam (Mary) in Paradise? I read about it in a book.
Dear Brother / Sister,
We live in a world of causes and wisdom. There is a reason for and wisdom behind everything here. However, the eternal realm, which is a place of repayment and power, has aspects that are peculiar to it. The criteria of this world are not in conformity with those of the hereafter; similarly, the conditions and principles in this world do not resemble those of the hereafter.
Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate that realm in accordance with its own criteria. However, it is not possible for us to have full knowledge about the eternal realm. Nevertheless, there are some signs that form a basis for this issue in some verses and hadiths. We know about them to the extent that those signs indicate.
Regarding the matter you mentioned, we learn about it from a hadith narrated in the Kitāb al-Zuhd of Ibn Mājah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will grant every believer whom He admits into Paradise seventy-two wives. Two of them will be from the ḥūr al-ʿayn, and seventy will be from the women of this world who were destined for Paradise instead of Hell.” (Ibn Mājah, Zuhd, 39)
The hadith scholar Hishām ibn Khālid explains this narration as follows:
"Some men will go to Hell and remain there forever. The men of Paradise will marry the wives of the men who will remain in Hell."
For example, like the wife of Pharaoh, Lady Āsiyah (peace be upon her). Her situation is clarified in another hadith:
“Allah has decreed that Maryam the daughter of ʿImrān, Āsiyah the wife of Pharaoh, and Gulsum the sister of Mūsā will be given to me as wives in Paradise.” (Ṭabarānī, al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr, 8/258)
From these noble narrations it is understood that the believing men in Paradise will be given the wives of those men who were condemned to Hell. Since the conditions of Paradise are unique to it, there will be no jealousy, envy, or similar emotions there.
The same ruling applies to believing women who passed away without ever having been married.
