OBJECTIONABLE ASPECTS OF ADVERTISING

Advertising and publicity is an activity that is done in order to introduce a product to buyers and consumers. Today, advertising has expanded and has been adopted so much that every company plans advertising and marketing when they start to produce something and establishes advertising like a subsidiary company. It has become more systemized since it is done through modern ways.

Advertising, marketing and promotion campaigns are services that are necessary in business. Thus, customers are informed about a new product and they do not have to make many efforts to meet their needs.

However, while doing it, that is, while advertising and promoting a product, it is necessary to pay attention to the issues that our religion does not like and prohibits. The points that come to mind regarding the issue are as follows briefly:

* Another issue is not to deceive the buyer. It means to deceive the customer by finding his weaknesses and to cause him to regret afterwards. It includes deceiving and wronging the customer, and violation of his rights.

* Another issue that people do not usually consider is that the person who advertises and markets the product swears (vows) very often; thus, he tries to gain the customer’s trust. If it contains a lie, it means false oath; if it is true, it is not appropriate to swear (vow) unnecessarily.

* It is not permissible to advertise by resorting to haram ways. For instance, to use obscene pictures and images while advertising a product. It is not permissible to advertise the products that are haram like alcoholic drinks and gambling. From this point of view, to use something that advertises a haram product means to advertise it; therefore, it is necessary not to use such products.
