The Answer
Dear Brother / Sister,
Intention is made for only one prayer; intention cannot be made for more than one prayer. When a person intends both for a missed prayer and tarawih prayer, he is regarded to have intended for the missed prayer only.
According to Hanafi madhhab, it is not possible to follow the imam who is leading tarawih (a nafilah prayer) with the intention of performing a missed fard prayer. The prayer that the imam and the congregation perform must be the same prayer.
According to Shafii madhhab, it is permissible to follow the imam who is leading tarawih prayer with the intention of performing a missed fard prayer.
