What are the issues that those performing kaffarah fasting need to be careful about?
Dear Brother / Sister,
* A person who has to perform kaffarah (atonement) fasting has to perform fasting two months on end. Therefore, the month of Ramadan or the days in which performing fasting is haram must not intervene. Otherwise, he has to start kaffarah fasting again.
* Travelling is a reason that can postpone Ramadan fasting but a person who has started to perform kaffarah fasting has to fast during travelling too.
* The kaffarah fasting of a woman who starts to menstruate or gives birth is not broken. She continues fasting after her menstruation or puerperium period ends.
* Kaffarah is the penalty for breaking Ramadan fasting deliberately, not the penalty of not performing fasting in Ramadan. Therefore, a person who does not intend to perform fasting in Ramadan performs fasting one day for each of the days he skipped after Ramadan. He does not have to perform kaffarah fasting.
