If water harms a person who has eczema on his face and head, what should he do when he makes wudu?
Dear Brother / Sister,
If washing a broken or wounded organ damages the wound or delays the healing of the wound, the plaster or cloth that is placed on the wound or the rope or cotton wrapped around it is wiped once in wudu or ghusl. When there is a bandage on any part of the body due to a fracture, dislocation or wound, if the bandage does not harm the wound, it is removed; the healthy parts are washed and the wound is only wiped.
However, if removing the bandage is harmful, it is permissible to wipe over it. The legitimacy of wiping over the bandage is certain according to the Sunnah. Hz. Ali said,
“One of my wrists was broken. I asked the Prophet (pbuh), and he ordered me to wipe over the bandage.” (Ibn Majah, Taharah, 134)
It is sufficient to wipe over the bandage once. That organ is regarded to have been washed virtually with that wiping. If the bandage is wrapped when a person has no wudu or when he is junub, wiping is still permissible; there is no specific duration for wiping over the bandage; it is permissible to wipe over the same bandage until the wound or fracture heals.
If the bandage is changed or if it falls after wiping over it, masah is not invalidated; it does not have to be made again. However, if the wound heals, masah becomes invalidated whether the bandage is removed or not.
If eczema increases when water touches some part of the body, the part in question is not washed but wiped; if wiping harms it too, it is permissible to skip wiping that part.
You can act based on the advice of a religions and specialized doctor regarding the issue.
