The Details of the Question

Is it bid'ah to utter salawat after the salutation in tarawih prayer; is it bid'ah?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

Uttering salawat and saying prayers are never bid'ah. It is permissible to utter salawat like that.

The word "tarawih" has the meaning of relaxation/resting. Therefore, it is necessary to sit a bit and rest after each four rak'ahs. During this period, one can read something, contemplate or glorify Allah (tasbih). He can do any of them.

In Turkey, muezzins generally utter salawat together with the congregation. It is a nice custom.

The salawat uttered after tarawih prayer and its meaning are as follows:

"Allahumma salli ala sayyidina muhammadini'n-nabiyyi'l-ummiyyi wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallim."

"O Allah! Send your peace and blessings to our master Muhammad, the illiterate prophet, and his family and his Companions."
