What is in the heavens? What are the things between the heavens and the earth?
- Taha, 20/6:
“To Him belongs what is in the heavens and on earth, and all between them, and all beneath the soil.”
Dear Brother / Sister,
The verse above has been interpreted with similar meanings by scholars:
a) To Allah belongs what is in the heavens and on earth. There is no other owner other than Him.
b) Allah, alone, is the Creator, Owner, Ruler, Manager and Disposer of the heavens and the earth and the atmosphere between them, the winds, the flying birds, the rain, the clouds, the stars, the celestial bodies, all kinds of plants, trees, fruits and products on the earth, the waters under the ground, the gases, the seeds, the grains, etc. (cf. Mawardi, the interpretation of the verse in question)
c) Another meaning close to it is as follows:
All the celestial materials used in the construction of the heavens, all the beings there, all the products made on the earth, the layers of the atmosphere that exist between the sky and the earth, all the lights, winds, clouds, rain, snow, hail, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen gases, all underground waters, rocks under the seven layers, living and non-living beings, mines, seeds, grains, etc. are all arranged by the knowledge, wisdom, power and will of Allah; and no interference from any other being is in question. (cf. Tabari, Ibn Kathir, Mahasinut-Tawil, the interpretation of the verse in question)
d) Since the whole universe is under the sovereignty of Allah, the Most Gracious, it means that the realm of beings is surrounded by His mercy, and every being receives its share of His mercy, whether they are aware of it or not.
e) It is stated in many verses of the Quran that everything in the heavens, on the earth and between them belongs to Allah. In this verse of the Quran, it is stated that in addition to what is stated in other verses, what is under the ground also belongs to Him.
Tafsir scholars generally explain it as those in the seven layers below the ground; according to this approach, an area that is generally a matter of curiosity for people is pointed out.
With special emphasis on that issue, it is clear that attention is drawn to the fact that nothing can be thought to be outside of the absolute sovereignty of Allah Almighty.
