What does the statement "Allah comes to them in canopies of clouds, with angels" mentioned in verse 210 of the chapter of al-Baqara mean?
Dear Brother / Sister,
"Will they wait until Allah comes to them in canopies of clouds, with angels (in His train) and the question is (thus) settled? but to Allah do all questions go back (for decision)." (al-Baqara, 2/210)
The phrase "Allah comes" in the verse above means "Allah’s wrath comes" according to all Islamic thinkers.
The verse is also explained as follows: "O My Messenger! Do those deniers say, 'We shall not believe in you until Allah comes with angels from the darkness of clouds, that is, until we see Allah and angels clearly’. "
As a matter of fact, there are verses stating that Jews wanted from Hz. Musa (Moses) and idolatrous Arabs from Hz. Muhammad (pbuh) similar things. (al-Baqara, 2/55; an-Nisa 4/153)
When this interpretation is taken into consideration, there is no need to interpret the phrase "Allah comes" according to a certain doctrine of kalam.
