Dear Brother / Sister,
The translation of the verse in question is as follows: “As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty.” (Aal-i Imran, 3/77)
What is meant by Allah's not speaking to and not looking at them is that they have no value in the eye of Allah, that they deserve the wrath of Allah, that Allah will not clean them of their sins, that He will not Forgive them or that He will deprive them of His praise, which he grants to His righteous slaves; they are grave outcomes for a person who has the consciousness of servitude to Allah. (Ibn Atiyya, 1,460; Zamakhshari, 1,197)
There are three issues that are emphasized related to the issue in the verse: Not to speak to them, not to look at their faces, not to clean them of their sins.
a. Not to speak to implies to be cross with; not to look at implies means to be angry with; not to clean them of their sins implies to leave them outside the scope of forgiveness.
b. Those three issues explain the meaning of one another in orderA and shows the severity of the anger gradually. Accordingly, Allah will never speak personally to the deniers that sell their religion in return for the world on the Day of Judgement to show that He is on distant terms with them and how angry He is with them. Let alone speaking, He will not look at their faces even once. For, He will not clean any of them of their sins.
c. Those who break their promise they gave to Allah in return for worldly interests are bound to remain as creatures that are valueless and that have lost everything in the hereafter. The statement “they shall have no portion in the hereafter” emphasizes this fact.
d. Allah will not speak to them in a friendly way, will not look at them with compassion and mercy; He will never clean them of their sins.
It is understood from those explanations that looking has various ways and meanings.
