Did the Prophet prostrate on stone or soil?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

The Prophet (pbuh) prostrated on any clean place and served as a model for us because the earth was a mosque for him. Can Shia scholars show the source of the narration that it is necessary to prostrate on stone and soil? Or is it possible to show a narration about not prostrating on the things that are eaten and drunk?

Prostration on a garment:

Anas (RA) narrates:

“We performed prayers together with the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) on very hot days. If one of us could not put his forehead on the ground due to heat, he would put his garment on the ground and prostrate on it." (İbrahim Canan, Kütüb- ü Sitte Muhtasarı ve Şerhi, VIII/535)

Prostration on a Prayer Rug:

Amr Ibn Dinar narrates:

“Ibn Abbas performed a prayer on a carpet in Basra and then told his friends that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) had performed prayers on carpets.” (İbrahim Canan, Kütüb- ü Sitte Muhtasarı ve Şerhi, XVII/43)

Samit Ibn Samit narrates:

“The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) performed a prayer on the land of Sons of Abdulashhal tribe. He put his hands on his garment in prostration to protect himself from the coldness of the stones.” (İbrahim Canan, Kütüb- ü Sitte Muhtasarı ve Şerhi, XVII/44)

Explanation:

It is essential to put the forehead and hands on the ground in prostration but it is decreed that it is permissible to put the forehead or hands on the garment that one wears due to heat or cold.

That is the view of Abu Hanifa and the majority of the scholars.
