Can dua negatively impact you, even if it was made sincerely?
Can dua negatively impact you, even if it was made sincerely?
Dear Brother / Sister,
The supplication (dua) a person says for himself will not have a negative effect. However, a sincere dua is more acceptable. If what is meant by the dua in the question is cursing (damnation), it can definitely have negative effects.
However, we cannot say that dua or cursing will definitely be accepted and have an effect because its acceptance depends on Allah’s will; if He wishes, He will accept; if He does not wish, He will not accept. If He wishes, He will give exactly what is requested in dua, or an equivalent of it if He wishes. If He wishes, He will not give at all and will delay it to the hereafter. He will do what He regards appropriate based on His infinite wisdom.
