Is listening to music without inappropriate lyrics haram, and can it prevent a person from becoming close to Allah?

The Details of the Question

Assalamu Alaikum. I would like guidance regarding music in Islam. Many scholars say that music is haram, while others make distinctions based on its content and context. I am confused and would appreciate clarification. My questions are: Is listening to music itself haram if it contains no vulgar, immoral, shirk-based, or un-Islamic lyrics and consists only of instruments and sounds? If a person listens to such music for relaxation, peace of mind, motivation, or concentration, does that still make it sinful? Some scholars say that the love of music and the love of Allah cannot exist in the same heart, and that a person who listens to music can never become close to Allah. Is this statement correct according to the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah? If someone has become attached or addicted to listening to music and wants to leave it for the sake of Allah, what practical steps should they take? If a Muslim struggles with music but continues praying, making dhikr, reading Qur'an, and trying to improve, does listening to music automatically prevent their spiritual growth and closeness to Allah? I would appreciate an answer based on authentic Islamic sources and the opinions of recognized scholars. Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
