Is it makruh for a woman to perform the prayers that she cannot perform when she is menstruating afterwards?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

It is not permissible for a woman who is in the menstruation or puerperium period to perform prayers. Hz. Prophet (pbuh) said to Fatima bint Abi Hubaysh,

"When you start to menstruate, give up praying; when menstruation ends, clean the blood, make ghusl and perform prayers."

The narration in Bukhari is as follows:

"Give up performing prayer as long as your menstruation continues; then, make ghusl and perform prayers." (Bukhari, Hayd, 19, 24, Wudu, 63; Muslim, Hayd, 62; Abu Dawud Taharah, 109)

A woman who menstruates does not perform the prayers she misses afterwards as qada but she has to perform fasting as qada. Hz. Âişe şöyle demiştir:

"Biz Rasûlullah (asm) devrinde âdet görüyorduk. Namazı kaza etmekle emrolunmadığımız halde, tutamadığımız orucu kaza etmekle emrolunuyorduk." (Buhârî, Hayz, 20; Ebfı Dâvud Tahâre,104; Tirmizî, Savm, 67; Nesaî, Hayz,17; Siyâm, 64).

Âdet halinde kılınmayan namazların sonradan kaza edilmesi şüphesiz ki mekruhtur.
