Can saints know the ghayb? Is there any evidence about it in verses and hadiths?

The Details of the Question

- Can angels know the ghayb? - Did our saints give any news from the ghayb? If they did, is there any evidence about giving news from the ghayb in verses or hadiths?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

Ghayb means unknown. The following verse reminds us this fact: "Nobody except Allah knows the ghayb."

It is stated in verse 26 of the chapter of al-Jinn that "only Allah can know the ghayb". However, it is stated in the verse after it that His beloved slaves that He is pleased with will be given information about the future and the past. That is, saints, who are Allah's beloved slaves, can know the ghayb if Allah informs them:

"He (alone) knows the Unseen, nor does He make any one acquainted with His Mysteries―Except a messenger whom He has chosen. (He informs them.) ..."(al-Jinn, 72/26 and 27)

Then, it is necessary to understand the statement "Only Allah knows the ghayb" as "Nobody can know the ghayb if Allah does not inform them". As a matter of fact, the Prophet (pbuh) gave news about some events that would happen after him and that happened before him with the permission of Allah.

Yes. Allah can inform a beloved slave of His (a prophet or a saint) about the ghayb based on His will. Those respectable people can tell people about an incident before it happens. This is evidence of Allah’s free will.

If we say, "Nobody except Allah knows the ghayb" and claim that prophets and saints cannot know the ghayb, we will harm the health of the verse and accept the idea that Allah's will can be restricted. This is contrary to our creed.

Revelation is sent only to prophets. Inspiration can come to Allah's saints and beloved slaves.
