Is it sunnah to prostrate in different places? Is it sunnah not to disarrange ranks (saffs) after the morning and afternoon prayers?

Is it sunnah not to stand up from the place and not change place where we perform the fard prayer after the morning and afternoon prayers? Did Hz. Prophet (pbuh) do like that? Is it thawab to say prayers and tasbihat there? Is it sunnah to perform sunnah prayers in different places after fard prayers? What is the decree about it?

Dear Brother / Sister,

It is mustahab for the congregation to change the place after performing the fard prayer in congregation and to perform the sunnah prayer and to say tasbihat in a different place if possible. According to a narration mentioned by Ibn Abidin, it is sunnah to do so.

What is meant by disarranging ranks is to prevent the people who arrive late from thinking that fard prayer is still being performed. It is mustahab to perform the sunnah prayer in a different place after a fard prayer is performed in congregation.   

It is narrated that the prayer mat and the ground will be a witness in the Gathering Place for the person who performs prayers. Therefore, the more places a person prostrates on, the more places will be witnessing for him. For, all beings will be conscious in the hereafter and they will speak with the wish of Allah. 

Since sunnah prayers are performed after the noon (zuhr), evening (maghrib) and night (isha) prayers, it is sunnah to change one’s place and perform the sunnah prayer in a different place. Thus, another place will be a witness that we performed prayers.

As for the morning (fajr) and afternoon (asr) prayers, it is Sunnah to say prayers and tasbihat without changing one’s place. The Prophet (pbuh) states that there are a lot of thawabs for a person who says prayers without changing the state of performing prayers after the fard prayer.
