If a person marries the person that he committed fornication with, is the sin of their fornication forgiven?

The Details of the Question

If a person has a sexual intercourse before marriage with the girl that he intends to marry, is the sin of the fornication they commit forgiven when they get married? Or, is our intercourse continue as a sin?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

First of all, the approach of having the thought "Allah will somehow forgive" while committing a sin is wrong. It is a grave mistake to plan a sin like that. Allah knows what is inside the heart. It is necessary to act sincerely toward Him. However, if a person has committed fornication by obeying his soul and if he has really regretted it, he can expect forgiveness from Allah.

It is not enough for a person to marry the girl that he had a sexual intercourse with. He also has to repent and ask forgiveness from her if he has violated her rights. A sin is committed once and it is regarded as a sin once. If this sin is not forgiven, it is recorded as a sin.

If a person repents and marries the girl that he had a sexual intercourse with, his intercourses with his wife after that are not regarded as fornication.
