Can a person performing prayer (ṣalāh/namāz) prevent someone from passing in front of them?
- Is the prayer of a person who is performing a prayer invalidated if he prevents with his right hand somebody who tries to walk in front of him?
Dear Brother / Sister,
One prevents a person wants to pass by stepping on the place of prostration with the gesture of his hand or by saying "Subhanallah". Women warn such a person by hitting their right hands on their left hands. (Bahr ar-Raiq / Ibn Nujaym)
It is makruh both to make a gesture with the hand and to say "Subhanallah". It is sunnah to prefer one of them. It is also regarded makruh to make a gesture by the head and eyes. (Celal Yıldırım, Kaynaklarıyla İslam Fıkhı, Uysal Kitabevi: 1/352-355)
A person’s prayer is not invalidated when he extends his hand to prevent the person who wants to walk in front of him.
