Does prostration of recitation become wajib when the verse of prostration is read with the eyes, not with the tongue

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

Prostration of recitation (sajdah at-tilawah) becoming wajib:

If the lips are not moved and the letters are not pronounced healthily when a verse of prostration is read, prostration of recitation does not become wajib. In that case, silent reading of a verse of prostration is not enough for prostration of recitation. (Fatawa Qadihan)

It is not enough for prostration of recitation to read the first letter of the word and to omit the last letter. It is necessary to pronounce the word fully.

An example regarding the issue:

If wasju is read instead of wasjud, prostration of forgetfulness (sajdah as-sahw) becomes necessary because the letter at the end of the word has not been pronounced and the meaning has not been understood. (at-Tabyin / Zaylai)
