Is it necessary to act according to imsak time or according to adhan when we fast outside Ramadan?
We woke up to fast in Shawwal and stopped eating according to imsak time, but when we saw that adhan was called half an hour after imsak time while we were waiting for the prayer, we thought that there was a mistake in the calendar; so, we stopped eating according to adhan the next day, but now we are in doubt. Which one is correct, and what is the state of our fasting?
Dear Brother / Sister,
The time for fasting begins at imsak, both in Ramadan and outside Ramadan. Therefore, your fasting according to imsak times is valid
If the adhan was called after the time of imsak, and you continued eating until adhan, you should perform that fasting again because eating and drinking under the mistaken belief that the time period for fasting has not started yet invalidates the fast; you have to make up the fast for one day.
To sum up, the time of imsak is essential; it is necessary to start fasting according to it.
