Is it permissible for men to perform prayers bareheaded?
Dear Brother / Sister,
It is understood from the explanation made in Fatawa al-Hindiyya that it is permissible for men to perform prayers bareheaded. When we search the sound narrations regarding the issue, we see the following narration reported from Ibn Abbas:
«The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) sometimes took off his turban and placed it in front of him as a sutrah.» (Ibn Asakir, from Ibn Abbas)
According to Hanafi fiqh scholars, there is no drawback to performing prayers bareheaded with the intention of assuming a more respectful attitude in the presence of Allah.
According to a narration from Ubada bin Samit, he says,
«The Messenger of Allah led us a prayer wearing only one piece of cloth that he tied between his two shoulders and covered his body.» (Tahtawi, 1/114, Bulaq Egypt-1318.)
It is deduced from this narration that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) led a prayer bareheaded.
