Is it permissible to kiss the Quran when we hold it?
Dear Brother / Sister,
Doubtlessly, the Quran is the holy book of Islam and it is necessary to show respect to it. However, to show respect to it means to read it by understanding it, to practice its decrees and to place it in the spirits and hearts. It is not enough to read it only.
The Prophet and his luminous congregation gave importance to it. It is meaningless to kiss the Quran, to stand up for the Quran and to place it over one's head for a person if he does not act in accordance with the Quran and transgresses its boundaries. To do so actually means to make fun of the Quran spiritually.
The Prophet and his Companions, who were the people who loved the Quran the most and who practiced its decrees, did not kiss the Quran or stand up for it. However, there are some fiqh scholars who say that it is good to stand up for the Quran and kiss it.
