What is your answer to the claims by some people that Islam sees woman as a source of mischief and depravity?
According to Islamic belief woman is neither mischievous nor depraved. Woman is so intelligent and so sensitive as to receive revelation (Hadrat Maryam), so brave, affectionate and noble as to bring up Moses in the palace of the Pharaoh. Woman is also the continuator of the last Prophets (PBUH) bloodline (Hadrat Fatima).
Our Prophet (PBUH) eliminated the prejudice that the bloodline should be continued by men and stated that his bloodline will be continued by Hadrat Fatima.
Both man and woman have the freedom to follow the positive or negative way. Woman can be Hadrat Maryam or the wife of Abu Lahab. Man can be Abu Bakr or Abu Jahl.
By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female― Verily (the ends) you strive for are diverse. So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), (Chapter Al-Lail 3-4-5)
The Qoran ascribed the duty to propagate the good and to forbid the evil to both man and woman. Both of them are equally responsible for the social peace and order. There is no difference between them in terms of the hereafter reward. (Chapter Al-Anfal, 72).
