What is your opinion about the claim regarding Jesus and Tatian?
- If Jesus (the Prophet Isa) was raised to heaven by Allah, and a lookalike was shown in his place, and if that hypocrite was killed, then what is the claim of Christians that Jesus rose FROM THE GRAVE about?
- That is, they say that a few people went to the place they thought was his grave and found it empty. So, did that hypocrite rise from the grave?
- However, in Christian records, someone was seen rising from the dead?
- Accordingly, the one who rose must be Jesus; so, does that mean Jesus was killed?
- How can this claim of Christians be answered?
Dear Brother / Sister,
Islam speaks the truth; it does not engage in falsehood! It does not fall into their trap by responding to falsehood.
A believer needs to speak the truth and fulfill the duty of conveying the message. Guiding people to the right path is not our job, but Allah’s. Interfering with His work is not our business – God forbid; it is beyond our boundaries. Whoever wants to accept the truth, accepts it; whoever wants to drown in falsehood, drowns in it. The following is stated in the Quran:
“Praise be Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and made the darkness and the light. Yet those who reject Faith hold (others) as equal, with their Guardian-Lord.” (al-Anam, 6/1)
So, the verse above means this:
There is only one LIGHT, and there is only one path to guidance; yet DARKNESS—that is, the false, dark paths outside the path of guidance—is infinite! Our duty is to walk in the path of Allah’s light.
We know this from mathematics: The teacher comes, proves that 2×2 equals 4, and leaves. That same teacher would not waste time trying to prove that 2x2 does not equal any number other than 4; it would be absurd.
There are two main sources for us:
The first is the Quran, the word of Allah, and the second is the words and actions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who, under Allah’s guidance, elaborated on Allah’s word. They encompass everything and explain everything we need until the Day of Judgment, also establishing the methodology through consensus (ijma) and analogy (qiyas).
Regarding your question about the death of Jesus, the Quran states the following:
“That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge; That they said (in boast), ‘We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah’;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not: Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.” (an-Nisa, 4/156-158)
As Muslims, our general principle should be as follows: Whether they are distorted scriptures and sources Christianity or Judaism, or other sources;
- We accept them if they are explicitly stated in the Quran and Sunnah.
- We reject them if they contradict the Quran and Sunnah.
- We remain silent if they are not stated in the Quran and Sunnah and if they do not contradict them.
That should be our standard.
How beautifully Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi once said:
“My silence comes from my nobleness. I have an answer for every word. However, I first look at the word if it is a word; and then look at the man if he is a man!”
We should not forget that the Christians you are referring to, who are in a state of heedlessness and misguidance; believe that there is not one but three gods who created them; they do not say,
Does God have a child? Even if He did, who could kill His son? Suppose someone did—does God die??
In other words, trying to respond to a believer who cannot apply basic logic to such an absurd belief, in particular by attempting to explain the matter through the Quran and Sunnah, is futile and amounts to falling into a trap.
Moreover, they do not accept the prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or that the Quran is the Book of God… First, this threshold must be crossed.
Once it is crossed, they will become Muslims… And that is close, inshallah!
