Is prayer invalidated if the congregation stands in front of the imam in prayer?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

If a person from the congregation moves forward and stands in front of the imam without any excuse, his prayer is invalidated. However, According to Maliki madhhab, it is permissible. As a matter of fact, in Masjid an-Nabawi, especially in the season of hajj, the people who perform the prayer outside the mosque due to lack of space inside the mosque sometimes stand in front of the imam. This is due to obligation and it is permissible in Maliki madhhab.  (Fatawayi Qadihan - Ibn Abidin)

If a person who is performing a prayer in the desert leaves his places and moves back as much as the place of prostration or moves to the right or left as much as that, his prayer is not invalidated. If he moves more than that length, his prayer is invalidated. Drawing a circle around him as a guide is not valid. What matters is the distance of prostration.

If there is an empty place in the row and if a man comes there and if the person praying there leaves the row and moves forward, his prayer is invalidated because there is no obligation in this case. (Khizanatul-Fatawa)
