The Details of the Question
What is the wisdom behind the forbidding by the Prophet of a newly widowed woman who had an eye disease to apply kohl to her eyes as a medication. The kohl is medicinal and would be beneficial to her condition, it seems contrary to reason and Islamic principle of preventing harm to the body that she would be prohibited from medicating her eyes with the only available treatment at that time? The Answer
Dear Brother / Sister,
-We could not find any information on such an event
-Even if such information is true, there is nothing strange in it. A medicine may be good for a person while it may not be good for someone else. Although water is essential and useful for human health, it might be inconvenient for some patients to consume extra water. There are a lot of examples regarding the issue in medicine.
