Is it permissible to bury the dead body with the casket? According to the laws of the country where we live, dead bodies can be buried only with the casket. What is the decree about being buried with the casket?
Dear Brother / Sister,
If the ground of the grave is wet or soft, the dead body can be buried with the casket. In that case, it is also permissible for the casket to be made from marble or iron. However, if something like that is not in question, it is makruh to bury the dead body with the casket. (see al-Jaziri, İslam Fıkhı)
According to some scholars, it is better for women to be buried with the casket even if the ground is not soft or wet.
If the dead body is buried with the casket, it is good to put some soil in the casket so that the sides of the dead body will contact soil. For, it is better for the dead body to touch soil than wood. (Ibn Abidin, Raddul-Mukhtar, 1/599)
If it is forbidden by the law to bury the dead body without a casket, it becomes permissible to bury it with the casket.
