If life is a test, Is it wrong to enjoy and love it?
If we enjoy life and do not face many hardships, does that mean Allah does not love us, since hardships are often seen as a sign of His love?
Dear Brother / Sister,
Life is a manifestation of Allah’s Name al-Ḥayy (the Ever-Living). Those who become aware of this manifestation truly enjoy life; indeed, even trials and afflictions may become a source of joy and sweetness for them.
One may compare this to a person who undergoes surgery for the treatment of an illness: despite all the pain involved, he is pleased with it and thanks the doctor.
Likewise, a believer endowed with spiritual insight sees every calamity, every hardship, and every affliction as a form of spiritual surgery. Since these become a means of spiritual purification, instead of complaining, he gives thanks and praise to Allah.
Thus, those who view life through the consciousness of faith derive joy and delight from it, and they attain happiness in both worlds.
